No one wants blight or crime in their neighborhood. However, it takes communication and action by residents to help City staff to assist neighborhoods with these issues. Community involvement is the key to success. Graffiti Graffiti is not only unsightly but it is vandalism, and it can lead to other issues such as littering or gang activity. If it is on you property, please remove it immediately. Local hardware stores have products that can assist with cleaning graffiti. If it is on public property, please call and report graffiti at (925) 252-4936. If you witness graffiti in progress, call the Police at (925) 646-2441. The City has a municipal ordinance on defacing public property. Chapter 9.74 DEFACING PUBLIC PROPERTY Shopping Carts Shopping carts are a nuisance and need to be reported. Abandoned shopping carts can end up in Kirker Creek causing bank erosion or flooding. Call (925) 252-6939 to report abandoned shopping carts. The City has an ordinance on shopping carts. To learn more about starting a program, click on the link above or call (925) 252-4147. Illegal Dumping Illegal dumping is the disposal of waste in unpermitted areas by residents and non-residents. Illegal dumping is a blight on our community and is a CRIME. There are also health & safety risks associated with illegal dumping. What can you do to help?
The City will be offering a $250.00 reward to individuals that provide information that leads to the conviction of the person(s) that have committed acts of littering/illegal dumping. To learn more about the process, contact Code Enforcement for a brochure. Abandoned Vehicles Cars can only be parked on the street for 72 hours per the California Vehicle Code. If you suspect a vehicle has been abandoned on your street or a vehicle is non-operable and posing a safety threat to your neighborhood, contact Code Enforcement at (925) 252-4010. Day and Night Curfews for Minors The City of Pittsburg has an ordinance to address curfews for minors. When school is in session, between the hours of 8:30 am and 1:30 pm, it is unlawful for minors to be off campus. It is also unlawful for unsupervised minors to be out between the hours of 10:00 pm to sunrise. For more information on this ordinance, click on the link below. |
