California’s Coolest City Challenge
July is the last month to help Pittsburg qualify for the Cool California Challenge! Win a Solar Backpack and more!
You may have read in the Contra Costa Times or seen on your local news that Pittsburg is one of 10 cities competing to be California’s Coolest City! The competition is easy and based on Pittsburg residences earning points for their daily actions. Every person who signs up automatically gets 100 points! More points are added after that for energy usage and transportation habits. Improving your habits will earn you bonus points each month, but you can also get Kudos Points for sending pictures of yourself doing fun things like riding your bike!
The whole program is internet based and the website is designed to create a fun atmosphere with competitions between groups and bonus activities. There is also a bi-weekly newsletter filled with tips, advice, and local information sent to every participant.
Right now Pittsburg is in 7th place, but at the end of July the 3 cities with the highest number of points will receive $10,000 for a community project and be able to continue on in the challenge with statewide support, sponsors, and activities. It is not too late to boost Pittsburg up to the Cool level we already know it is.
At the end of July the City will be raffling off a solar charging backpack, solar battery charger, and LED light bulb to one of our lucky participants.
